Prior to founding Balios Capital, Thomas served as part of the acquisition team at John Laing Homes, one of the largest private home builders in the United States. As part of the Los Angeles Division, he identified and evaluated early to late-stage land acquisition and development opportunities consistent with the division’s strategic plan. During his tenure with the company, Thomas worked to bring numerous high-profile developments from acquisition through financing, entitlements, and construction. Thomas’s residential experience includes custom homes, master-planned residential communities, urban infill projects, and mixed-use developments.

Prior to his time at John Laing Homes, Thomas was an Engagement Manager for The Concord Group, a boutique real estate advisory firm headquartered in Newport Beach. Thomas provided strategic market and financial advice to major land owners, developers, and institutional investors, allowing them to establish market value prior to acquisition in order to maximize financial return during the development process. At The Concord Group, Thomas led a team of consultants to conduct studies in residential, commercial, retail, and resort developments. Additionally, Thomas recommended strategies relating to asset repositioning, investment/disposition, land use programming/phasing, product type, and pricing.

Thomas is a member of the Urban Land Institute and has participated in the ULI Professional Development Program and the UCI Light Construction and Development Management Program. Thomas received his B.S. from the University of California at Berkeley.

Thomas lives in Manhattan Beach, California with his wife and son. In his free time, you can find him enjoying The Strand with his family and surfing his local break.
